Apocalypse is a web-based MMORPG, where everyone plays in the same world, a world filled with magic, technology, and few rules. Drawing upon the many concepts that have made RPGs exciting throughout the ages, Apocalypse tries to recreate the feel of a tradition pencil-and-paper RPG through the decisions and choices your character has to make.

Apocalypse tries to be a combination of all the elements of pencil-and-paper, tabletop RPGs that made them so fun to play. This means that you have stats, equipment, magic, skills, technology, special abilities, get to fight monsters, wizards, dragons, and "level up" (advancing your character), but it also means there is a focus on creating a consistent, enjoyable game "world" to immerse yourself in. Built as a MMORPG (massively multiplayer online RPG), all players exist simultaneously in one all-encompassing world, permitting a greater level of player interaction and cooperation than is possible by normal RPGs, or indeed even by pencil-and-paper RPGs. You can not only interact with and socialize with your fellow players in the world, but you can even join them in combat against common foes or in shared quests (coming soon).

Centuries ago, during the middle ages and before, Earth used to be a very magical place and ley lines (circuits of magical energy) enmeshed the planet. Over time, the ley lines grew weak and thin, and magic all but disappeared. Technology grew and civilization advanced, until one day a small nuclear exchange in South America started a chain reaction. You see, each living thing contains a small amount of magical energy, which is released -- and doubled -- at the point of death. When the bombs went off, localized though they may have been, an enormous amount of people all died at once and thus released an unprecedented surge of magical energy. The ley lines were re-ignited, magic rushed back in, and the face and fabric of the planet were changed forever.

When the apocalypse finally subsided, mankind was all but wiped out, and Earth had become a dimensional nexus linking innumerable worlds and realities -- the most powerful such nexus in millenia, and therefore the most valuable resource in existence. Demons and aliens and entities from all forms of dimensions staked their claims on the new Earth, and the battle for ultimate control began in earnest. This story begins just over a century later, as man is struggling to win back a homeworld bursting with both magic and technology.
