GM-Spidurman of Hattrick
By: Robert F. Ludwick | Game Data | 1:42pm, July 9, 2003
GM-Spidurman is a Game-Master for Hattrick in USA. This financial analyst has promotion aspirations in Hattrick USA.

OMGN: So, who is the person behind the Spidur?

GM-Spidurman: I'm a 23 year old financial analyst from Philadelphia. I work for a small financial planning firm just outside the city.

OMGN: What brought you to Hattrick?

GM-Spidurman: I came from a similar game, the college basketball simulator at I was getting bored with the game and they were creating more of an emphasis on pay features. Hattrick came recommended by over a dozen people, and I would say another couple dozen have joined from there too.

OMGN: How have you been faring in Hattrick thus far? Are you achieving what you've set out to do with your team?

GM-Spidurman: I'm doing moderately well with my team by my standards. I started in division IV two seasons ago with nearly no chance to stay in there, and I demoted. I lost my series by one goal last season and currently am leading. I love the longer term strategies needed in Hattrick, and mine are finally starting to come around.

OMGN: You became a conference moderator for USA in Hattrick, and now you're a Game-Master for USA. What prompted you to become a Game-Master?

GM-Spidurman: I enjoy helping people and I have a great deal of administrative experience from my collegiate days.

OMGN: Administrative experience from college, that's interesting. Care to share any details?

GM-Spidurman: I worked for a student managed investment fund (stock market) for my last two years at college. After my first semester, I gradually absorbed alot of the detail work as well as co-coordinating recruitment (over 100 apps in a small school). I also have worked in athletic administration for the past nine years. I did sports information work (game management and media relations) - that job also allowed me to attend the 1998 NCAA Men's Soccer Final Four and several other huge events.

OMGN: As a GM, what kind of things do you do for Hattrick on a daily basis?

GM-Spidurman: It's mainly just handling the details of the game. We get numerous mails with all sorts of questions/possible problems that we have to look into. Signups are a big thing as is cheat investigations. Also, all GMs are also moderators, so I keep an eye on the conferences some still - but I've got a great new moderator who is helping out there. It takes a few hours a day total for the USA, split between myself and GM-George.

OMGN: Since being a GM for the USA is a time-consuming task, do you ever rethink your decision to become one, since the rewards for the position are small and criticism can be large?

GM-Spidurman: I will do it as long as I enjoy it. The community of GMs is a very pleasant and diverse one. To me, the ultimate reward for doing a good job as a GM is the same one that a soccer referee gets after a well-officiated match. A pat on the back and move on to the next day is about all I ask.

OMGN: What kind of growth projections do they have for USA in Hattrick?

GM-Spidurman: I wouldn't expect much growth at this point until we can get some advertising in either a soccer maganize or a similar place. That is what is fueling the growth in places such as Argentina, Portugal, England, and Sweden.

OMGN: Back to your and your team - Obviously your team name, SipderZone, relates to your screename. Why did you pick your screename and team name?

GM-Spidurman: I went to college at the University of Richmond - the Spider is our mascot.

OMGN: What would you say are the strengths and weaknesses of your team?

GM-Spidurman: The strength of my team would be the midfield and keeper so far. I am just starting a scoring training program to complement them. The weakness is probably the impulsive nature of the manager, he tends to screw things up for the team :D

OMGN: Where do you see your team at the end of next season?

GM-Spidurman: I expect to be a competitive, if not top ranked (in my series that is), Division IV team with promotion aspirations

OMGN: You have bought Hattrick Supporter. What is your favorite feature of it?

GM-Spidurman: The stats. I'm a stats junkie, always have been.

OMGN: Who do you support, with supporter?

GM-Spidurman: I support GM-Idigum, MOD-Vampyre, Nagle, Matrix_Agent, and Sugarbuzz. They're some of the people on-site that I am closest to. There are plenty of others I would support, but I ran out of slots.

OMGN: Who supports you?

GM-Spidurman: KevinNelson, GM-Idigum, sugarbuzz, thugarific, jon_mc, Mod-Vampyre, modred, blink, Nagle, and Matrix_Agent.

OMGN: Is there anything else you'd like to add?

GM-Spidurman: Not really, just want wish the best of luck to slashers and the rest of Team USA as we go into the World Cup.
