ANNOUNCEMENTS

If you downloaded the SMRTools program shortly after I announced it, I apologize because the Installer didn't create shortcuts automatically. This is fixed, and you will either have to make the shortcuts manually, or do a reinstall.

If you are just now downloading the program, then no worries.

SMR Tools

Are you a miner or a planet builder? Do me a favor and beta test my new SMR Tools program:

http://smrtools.b-o-b.org/downloads/SMRTools.zip

This tool is quicker, and easier to use than my previous web counterparts, with simple Copy & Paste functionality.
In addition to the traditional Seed Report & Planet Report, there are now Shortest Route plotting tools that will help you find the best seeding/refreshing/planet building route.

If you find any problems in the program please contact me via: b.o.b@smrealms.de

Hey everyone,

In case you didn't see this on the webboard here it is.

I will be holding an Admin's Table (AT) this Sunday at 7PM EST (Oct 8, 1AM server time).

What is Admin's Table?
AT is where players can ask the admins and coders any question (almost) they have about the game and the future of the game.

Why now?
SMR1.5 is doing well in its developments and I've been getting lots of questions regarding some changes. So now is a good time to stop by and ask questions and see the answers to all SMR1.5 related topics.

Come learn about the traders "get out alive free" card and the hunters "you aren't getting away alive" card, or the oppers "wow, that planet just got messed up" card.

5:47:25 PM
Just a friendly reminder. If you use something to control your player (macro, auto refresh, bot, etc) this is against the rules and you will be banned.

Four players were banned today for such violations. This will be monitored closely and more will surely come.

Current Rules: http://smrcnn.smrealms.de/viewtopic.php?t=3515

When you click "Join Game", there are some naming rules shown, and once such rule is:
Names that are taken from real life history, or the names of existing people - eg. "Osama bin Laden", "Stalin" or "Harrison Ford".

Because these rules are hard coded into the game, they cannot be easily updated. As such, the above rule is obsolete.

If you have been told you have to change your name because of the above rule, the person telling you that is incorrect, and should be directed to B.O.B.

Since certain people seem to need a reminder, here it is again:

Loophole

Any future use of the following loophole will result in ban points being given under rule #14. The follow tactic is considered a loophole and an abuse of the current system:
1. Leaving your alliance, while on your lander planet.
2. Booting your ex-alliance members off the planet.
3. Rejoining your alliance.
4. Firing on enemy raiding party that passes through the sector you just booteed everyone off the planet from.

If you were meant to be able to boot alliance members off your planet to create on offline fleet to fire on a raiding enemy, this ability would coded into the game. Getting this as a coded option into alliance features is a legitimate topic that can be discussed on the WB, but current methodology (leaving alliance) to achieve this functionality is a loophole abuse.

Due to the recent game change, it is up in the air to scrub the current main game map (DuPont), and to start a new one.

Vote at http://smrcnn.smrealms.de/viewtopic.php?t=8213

Note: Stats will not be lost, the map will be closed early, and a new one created.

Public Accusation & Complaints

Due to the recent outbreaks, and the fact that the general playerbase is not seeming to understand this, I have updated the rules for a more harsh punishment.
Any future incident will result in an automatic 20 ban points and upto 50 ban points. There is no exceptions or extuanating circumstances that will excuse your behaviour.

The proper channels, as I will stress again, is a PRIVATE message to an admin, mod, or committee member. They will then see that your concerns are addressed.

Public accusations / complaints (regardless of proof) means jack cause the player's aren't the judges. I or another admin will review the facts in private and decide whether someone cheated or not. It isn't the players responsibility (or right for that matter) to come into public chat and pass judgement on someone else. That is the admin's job.

Private Accusations & Harrassment

Private accusations are a form of harrassment. If you are reported, you will be logged, and depending on the severity of the message, will receive ban points.

The player who is reporting the harrassment has the following responsibilities:
  • If the message was ingame, blacklist the player.
  • If the message was in chat, most IRC chat programs have an ignore option. Put them on ignore, and report them to an IRCop. VJTD3 is the head IRCop.
  • Report all future messages to an admin, mod, or committee member.
  • If you have not blacklisted/chat-ignored the player in question after the initial message, no action will be taken against the offender.

The use of any kind of software to produce non-human input to the game environment is against the rules. Player logs will be checked for patterns indicating automation and players using input software will receive game bans. ALSO. The same can be said for using a proxy server to connect to SMR, if you are under special circumstances and must use a proxy please e-mail support@smrealms.de to explain the situation, it will then be reviewed by admin. If you do not do this, and use of a proxy is found on your account, you will be disabled without prior notification.

Spock has game updates to do.

We'd like to do them after the end of current game, and before the next. This means updates will be going in while the special game (MG), is running.

This also means that MG could be messed up beyond repair due to the updates.

Personally I'm in favor of adding in the updates. Spock would like to know if the general public is ok with this.

Ok, so I was bored and I figured you might want some light amusement so I've set up a little something on the beta server. As it's the beta server all the current beta changes are in force (If you don't know what these are then ask your nearest beta team member. If you don't know a beta team member then try JJ) so just consider them part of the entertainment. The game is race wars. It's Persians Vs Spartans. It's special ships, special planets and special mining rules. It might not all work, because some bits are held together with string and gum (The race wars code hasn't been looked at for a while), but it should be a blast. The 300 game opens at midnight Saturday (beta.smrealms.de). Anyone who doesn't bring a Greek or Persian name to the party is getting one chosen for them --------- - Curufir

So I am not pushing for money from you all just asking that if you have thought about it now is a good time to donate. Depending on what we get is how good of a server we will purchase.

Name changes have been updated for this round. This on trial and may be eliminated at any time in the future. Rule is as follows:

    Name Changing:
       1. Allowable only in the following situations:
          1. Once per game at an admin's discretion.
          2. The name is in violation of the rules.
       2. All name change decisions are left up to the individual Admin making the decision.
       3. Proper procedure after a name change is to make in game message to all players letting them know what the original name was, and what the new name is. This exception to if the name was inviolation of the rules, in which case, the original name will not be provided.

We currently have 274 votes for OMGN and are ranked #2 overall, we have already noticed that from that we are experiencing a high number of players coming in from that site. However, we only have 99 votes on TopWebGames ranking us at #55..Funny cause I doubt the people voting on OMGN are passing up the TWG freeturns? Don't be lazy! Take 2 seconds and type in the Human Verification Code! We could easily be top 5 on this site! We have 533 votes on MPOGD and are ranked 15th overall (this is a monthly vote not a weekly one). I think this is good for MPOGD but lets push hard, MPOGD Is the most frequented site of these 3 and if we can get ranked on all 3, we will increase traffic a ridiculous ammount.

Doh! Apparently my eyes went twitchy on me and I put weapon shops in the column next to Ursa Major, which is Monte Carlo, a planet gal. All those locations are going to get removed, and they have been added to Ursa Major.

This means there is 2 HHG shops, one in Monte Carlo and a new one in Ursa Major. The one in Monte Carlo is going to get deleted.

If you have shared a computer/internet connection with another SMR player, it is your responsibility to notify the multi team at SMR unless you want to get banned. If we see two users on the same IP address we will ban first and not unban until we have recieved sufficient information/proof that it is actually more then one person playing the accounts. -Siege

Because people keep complaining that suiciding isn't against the rules (it is, it is an arranged kill), it now has its own category in the rules. New rule is as follows:

    Intentional Suicides
    - A suicide death is defined as any death where it is a trigger (regardless of the target) and there is no chance of survival or a clear objective.
    - Intentional Suicides are bannable for any of the following reasons:
    - - To throw a fit about something they don't like.
    - - To pad their death count.
    - - To spam the news.
    - - This list is not all inclusive list, and can be expanded upon at any time.
    - All players actively invovled in the arranged kill will be given upto 35 points on a case by case basis.

    Concurrent Slow Game

I want one, and so should you!

Anyway, I was thinking repeat of something similiar to Middle Ground.
Speed would be 0.75 and length would be 6 months.
There would be no more than 11 galaxies. 8 for big racials with all the locations, and 3 big planetary gals (with CAs in the planetary gals)

Maybe not that design (if y'all can think of a better design for a slow game), but definitely would be cool to have long slow game. Would definitely bring out different strategies.

If you'll notice the title of the topic, it is "concurrent slow game" which means it would be running concurrently with a normal game.

There is a poll going at: http://smrcnn.smrealms.de/viewtopic.php?t=6834
Go there and vote yes, or die! Just kidding. Anyway, the vote is on whether you would be interested in a slow game running concurrently with a normal game, and it doesn't have to be the proposed design.

On the WB, at http://smrcnn.smrealms.de/viewtopic.php?t=6739, I made the following post:
I'm looking to expand and revamp the SMR Rules Committee. By expand, I mean more members.

The committee will have 1 main responsibility, and 1 minor responsibility.

First, is the continual review, revision, and expansion of the current rules.
The minor, is advising the Admin team on all cases. However this is only an advisor position and the Admin's are in no way obligated to follow the advice.

You may think there is no point to the committee because of this, but I'm looking at revamping the way bans are handed out (not saying I'm going with this, but this is what I'm considering.)

What I'm looking at doing is this:
    1. Basically whenever an Admin feels a player is doing something that deserves a ban, that Player is given an official message stating to cease the action they are currently doing.
    2. That player is to immediately stop the action stated, or have their account closed immediately. This is regardless of whether their action is against the rules. If an admin says stop, it means stop.
    3. The case is then presented to the committee, where the admins as whole, with the advice of the committee, make a decision as to whether to ban, and for how long.
    4. The player will also be allowed to present his side of the case before a decision is made (this however is required to be done in a timely manner).
    5. If a player was banned because of not stopping when told to do so, the time spent while banned does not count towards the possible future ban. This is because that time are banned is not for the action, but for not stopping the action when told to do so.

Lastly, I want recommendations of who to be on the committee. I however do not want anyone recommending themself.

My hopes is that this process will help eliminate biased/hasty decisions, and also give the player a chance to make ammends.

Edit: Thoughts on using this process to handle future bans?

Please go to the webboard to reply to this.
Sorry forgot to put in break spaces in the first announcement.

First, is the continual review, revision, and expansion of the current rules. The minor, is advising the Admin team on all cases. However this is only an advisor position and the Admin's are in no way obligated to follow the advice. You may think there is no point to the committee because of this, but I'm looking at revamping the way bans are handed out (not saying I'm going with this, but this is what I'm considering.) What I'm looking at doing is this: 1.
