Canon Server Update
By: Charles Rector | Other | Game Data | 2:48am, April 19, 2003
Canon disappeared from its perch on the
World Wide Web owing to financial problems and a dispute with its server providers.
Now, however, it appears that it is about to regain its footing. Following is the Latest Updates as originally posted by game developer Decae on the forum Tempers Ball:

Finding a new provider/host is time consuming and should be so deliberately. Picking one, paying for its setup, only to find out it won't work/doesn't meet your needs causes undue cost and delay.

With that in mind, we have secured a small webhost that will take over for www.evernight.net/com (I believe .com) in the next 24/48 hours. This will host the boards, even if they are limited.

We will then find a full sized host and complete the move to it. This could take some time. During this time, I will be working on the recode via my personal computer and when the new system is put up, we will have an open alpha/beta (depending on the progress) of the recode.

Please do not offer webspace, or help with connectivity unless you are an ISP or run one. It isn't that we don't want that help, it's just that to many hands in the cookie jar tend to mangle things.

On average, for a site our size and cyclic nature, it will cost about 120-150 a month, plus setup costs. We currently have enough to do a month with some left over - please continue to donate if you so desire, it will alleviate the burden from mine and Brian's shoulder and allow us to concentrate on other things - with less stress, all the while giving us more options. (cheaper to buy service in chunks, etc)

I, and Brian I'm sure, fully appreciate the help and support you've given us. I do apologize for not giving notice, but I'd hoped to head it off before it came to this - however I was unable. I've taken steps to ensure that this won't happen in the future (have to love push step-sisters).

Thanks,
Dustin

Once again, I would like to thank this community for its extremely giving and generous nature.

I had, quite seriously, considered retiring from the online life when the site was 'shut down'. I see now that my reasons for that line of thought were quite wrong.

We have found what appears to be two suitable replacements for our old system and are currently investigating those options. Our current plan is to migrate to the option we choose within three to four weeks. I know this seems like a large amount of time, but we really are going to be sure before making a choice and exposing the community to it.

Thanks,
Dustin

We've been able to find out more about our current options over the weekend and will most likely only need two weeks, not three or four, before going with one.

A single game from the old system will be started up initially, then the others brought back online as we are sure the system is correctly configured and can handle our stress. Once all the old games are online, we will bring on the alpha for the recode.

Thank you for your support. We have currently received a good deal of money and are quite happy with your direct display of gratitude. If you choose to send in additional money (at this point) it will sit in the bank for future months, to secure our system from other setbacks.

Thanks,
Dustin
